United Nations International Women’s Day - 2023
Members of Jewish, Baha’i, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Presbyterian and Islamic faiths from St Albert Interfaith Connections worked together to create and host a night to be remembered for International Women’s Day.
Approximately 200 people of different faiths and backgrounds, gathered in St Albert to honour five remarkable women on March 11, 2023.
The Baha’i Community initiated the celebration of this important day of recognition event over 26 years ago.
“Embrace Equity” which focuses on inclusion was the theme of International Women’s Day. The theme was enhanced by the program including each religion’s view on the importance of women to their faith.
Those honoured were: Mary O’Neill, Celina Loyer, Helen Agbonison, Judy Evans and Muna Abdulhussain.
Mary was awarded for her efforts in Education and Community Service
Celina was awarded for her work in Education and Indigenous Initiatives
Helen was awarded for her Youth Empowerment and Multicultural Initiatives.
Judy was awarded for her work as an Unsung Heroine and for dedication and contributions to Community Service.
Muna was awarded as an Unsung Heroine and for her Multicultural Initiatives in the community.
